She shares her thoughts and top tips that she has gleaned from her phenomenal work in the kink community, spanning decades.

Introduction to Miss Kim Rub
Alice Hunter: Who is Miss Kim Rub, and what is she all about?
Miss Kim Rub: Oh my God. So, I’ve been on the UK London fetish scene for 36 years—just about to enter my 37th year—and I’m only 18! No, no, no. I don’t know. When I first was on the scene, I think I was a fetishist. I was into the clothes and the clubbing because I was younger, so I was really interested in the clothes and the clubs. But I think it was the clothes that really captured my attention. I was a clubber for a good six years before I even thought about starting my own event. But yeah, that was the first thing I did.

The Birth of Rubber Nipple Club
Alice Hunter: How did you start your own fetish event?
Miss Kim Rub: I got a venue and started the Rubber Nipple Club. I’d been watching a Ren & Stimpy cartoon, and they were door-to-door rubber nipple salesmen. I thought, “That would be a really good name for a club!” Next thing you know, I’ve got a club, and it was the Rubber Nipple Club.
That ran for two years in partnership with someone else. We had agreed that if we parted ways, the name would go—even though it was my name. So, that club ended, and then I started Club Rub without skipping a month. I went straight into another club, and in 22 years, I have not missed a single month.

Alice Hunter: 264 consecutive monthly events without missing a single month? Wow.
Miss Kim Rub: Yeah, and that’s hard to do. Although, I think it’s harder to do that now than it was then, because you could always seem to find a little venue. I think they’ve all gone now.
Alice Hunter: Is Club Rub still going?
Miss Kim Rub: No, I closed it down seven years ago. Seven and a half years ago, actually.
Club Rub: More Than Just Rubber
Alice Hunter: Was Club Rub mainly for rubber fetishists?
Miss Kim Rub: No, it was a fetish club—any kind of fetish. PVC, lingerie, uniforms, rubber, leather—yeah, anything that would come under the banner of fetish.

Alice Hunter: So what made Club Rub different from other clubs?
Miss Kim Rub: I think what made it stand out was the themes. Every month had a different theme, and that made dressing up so much fun. It wasn’t just a place to dance and socialize—it was a place to express yourself through fashion and creativity. I used to put together Pinterest boards to inspire people on what to wear. Pirates, sheer, uniforms—every event had a different look and feel.
Challenges of Running a Fetish Club
Alice Hunter: What were some of the biggest challenges in running a fetish club?
Miss Kim Rub: Finding venues, for sure. Back then, it was easier to find little places to host events. Now, with stricter regulations and fewer available venues, it would be much harder. Also, keeping up with the ever-changing scene and maintaining a dedicated audience over two decades was a big challenge, but I loved every minute of it. It kind of seemed easy for me because I’d already been social secretary at University, so Ents officer, entertainments officer at university. So it just seemed like a very natural progression for me. And I’d also studied graphic design, so that seemed to be part of it as well. So it’s kind of, I don’t know, I think maybe if you want to start something, get a grounding in sort of that field before you start. It’s something I did because I just felt like it was like easy.

Miss Kim Rub on Running a Dungeon
Well, I used to be upstairs in the room at the top of the building, and then the man who used to live on the ground floor. This is his recording studio, his old recording studio. He was. He used to make music. He was a music director, director. Whatever they’re called. He died of COVID, January the 4th, 2021. I could actually hear him through the floorboards, struggling for breath. Gosh, yeah. So it wasn’t nice. I called the and I called the NHS and they couldn’t do anything and then they said send a care check, so I called the police and. It was too late by then because he died about an hour and a half later.

When it was his family took everything. His family took everything that he owned. They they left these sound absorbing boards which are quite fascinating, aren’t they? And the ones over there, those sound absorbing boards, these partitions were on the ceiling with rock wool behind them so that they they absorbed sound that was going upwards. So, but the walls are full of rockwool. It’s specially designed. It wasn’t here before he came here about five years ago. So he designed it so that it would be soundproofed so the woman upstairs wouldn’t complain, Right. Ohh, that’d be me.
Starting a dungeon back in the day
I was telling somebody only the other day that I was a little bit ahead of my time because, I want to say, about 20 years ago I set up my own dungeon for rental. But it was pre-internet, So it just it just never took off. So I had this idea that I was taking my dungeon equipment from the club to a lock-up and I already had loads of whips and chains and shackles and things like that. Anyway, and I thought, why don’t I just put them all in a flat and then it’s called a dungeon for rent, but of course back then there wasn’t the response that there is now, I mean, you know, starting up your own dungeon now and renting it out to all the millions of Dommes that are in in this this country and in specifically London. It’s quite lucrative.

I don’t rent this space, by the way. I wasn’t a Domme then and I was happy to rent it out. I am a Domme now and I’m not happy to rent it out. It’s just my own space. I do do content filming days here, it’s £200 for the whole day but you get me because I don’t want anybody in here on their own. It’s clean and tidy and things don’t get put back broken or dirty or scratch and sniff. You know, scratch and sniff.
How to become a Domme, by Miss Kim Rub
I would say educate yourself and and that doesn’t necessarily mean come to mymistressworkshop.com. It does mean; Educate yourself. I think everybody thinks you just get a whip and an outfit and you’re a Domme. There’s a little bit more to it than that. I think I overwhelmed the young lady that was here earlier to the point where I think she wanted to leave because there’s just so much involved in it. And I think the first thing you do is educate yourself. The way I teach is I’d never tell anybody what to do.

I show them all the endless possibilities. I teach the I teach them a formula for approaching any BDSM practise so that they can get the most out of it but also add into that what makes. Each individual mistress is special and that’s not telling them how to be special. I think my workshop’s a little bit more than you know. Tell them to do this. Make them stand there. I don’t. I help them help them step into their power.
The Impact of COVID on the Fetish Scene
Alice Hunter: How did COVID affect your work?
Miss Kim Rub: Oh, massively. COVID changed everything. Well, this is the 12th year, so next you’ll be the 13th year. But I did it every single every single month right up until COVID. I had to stop doing in-person events for the first time in decades. It was a huge shift. But what COVID did do was force me to take my workshops online. I started doing one-on-one training sessions virtually, which I had never considered before.

I even trained women from Morocco, Norway, Spain, Ireland, and America, which was amazing. Before that, my workshops had only been available to those who could physically attend. So in a way, it opened up a whole new audience for me. But it was tough—I lost friends, I saw people struggle, and for a while, everything just stopped.
Mistressworkshop.com and learning to be a Domme with Miss Kim Rub
Alice Hunter: How many women have you trained?
Miss Kim Rub: Oh my God, Hundreds and hundreds. And if, in fact, if you go on to Miss Kim linktree.com and Scroll down to testimonials, you can read all the testimonials that I’ve had. But there are some at mistressworkshop.com and they’re all absolutely real. It’s just a never ending source of delight for me, how I’ve changed people’s perceptions lives. And empowered women. One of the ladies that came last Monday came to the Queenbee Society drinks on Friday night and I’d had a Parisian mistress staying with me for a week and I said, Ohh, you’re talking to D. How was she? And she said, ‘Oh my God, she got it because of the workshop.’

And I wouldn’t say she hadn’t got it, but. There was just a few things that she was struggling with, and she was. Apparently through the conversation with my friend, she’s like she went, Oh my God, she’s really changed. She really changed everything. And she sent me a text today, just just being really, really nice and but she’s got a proper job. A proper job. That’s a proper job. How dare you. I know, but she’s got a regular.
And 9:00 to 5:00, That’s it. And she’s not gonna give it up. She earns a lot of money. But she wants to be more involved and and she’s already got it, but she doesn’t really realise it. So that’s what I always hoped to bring out.
The Mistress workshop by Miss Kim Rub
My mistress workshop is five hours long and it’s a one stop shop, so you don’t need to do anything after that apart from listen. And carry out some of the procedures and formulas that I suggest. But you can do it all yourself if you’re a self starter. I’m pretty much a self starter, you know, I kind of don’t really need a lot. If I’m really interested in something, I’m like, go for it, really go for it. So if you’re that kind of person, you only need the one workshop. If you’re like ohh I want to fast track this then I have 882 hour workshops on specific subjects, subjects that are quite in depth like wax play, anal play, and pegging impact play. Bondage, cock and ball play, not torture. And I also do a social media marketing workshop because my social media is 190K.

Kink and Social Media
I don’t put all my eggs in one basket, for instance. Instagram, it’s kind of pointless. So I kind of do the bare minimum and say the bare minimum and it’s just nice to have a presence on there, to be quite honest with you. In fact, in my Miss Dot Kim Rub profile on Instagram, I’ve just looked tonight. I’ve got 938 people waiting for me to say yes. Shouldn’t say can’t be bothered. Because I’m too busy. My profiles are locked down because if you lock your profile down you’ve got less chance of being deleted.
How to use social media for kink
So I’m active on Fetlife. I’m also massively active on Twitter. I have 9 profiles on Twitter. Also Miss Kim Linktree.Com. So it’s all there. It’s all accountable. I don’t lie. You can count up my social media. And. I’m on Pinterest because I started Pinterest when I ran Club Rub. It had different themes each month. So I’d make a theme a a Pinterest file on pirates are one on uniforms or one on red or one on sheer or you know, so when people were like thinking, ‘Ohh what can I wear this month,’ they could look at my Pinterest and then get some inspiration and some ideas. Club was a theme event.

Yes. So, I used to really enjoy doing that. It’s a shame really, because the themes were what – I suppose I’m a fetishist, aren’t I? So, the themes are what I enjoyed the most about Club Rub. Yeah, the the dressing up. Oh, what am I going to wear? What theme is it? It’s like going into the wardrobe, mixing that with that and using some old bits with some new bits with some cobbled together bits. Putting her outfit together is a dream of mine. I’ve always loved kind of that kind of element of styling things.
The Best Fetish Events in London rated by Miss Kim Rub
Alice Hunter: Which events today do you really rate for someone looking to either get started or step up their game in the fetish scene?
Miss Kim Rub: There are different events for different things. If you wanted to be a mistress or involved in the femdom world, Pedestal seems to be the club that’s endured. It’s probably in its 21st year now.
Alice Hunter: 21st birthday just happened!
Miss Kim Rub: 21st? Okay, right. Well, they caught up with me! Ohh. So, they were seven or eight years behind me. That’s interesting.
That’s a great little club. It’s on a school night. If you’re a pro-domme, you probably can do what you like, but it’s a good club, and Derek—who’s run it the entire time—is a nice guy.
I’ve never been to Club Femdom; I don’t know what it’s like. Torture Garden—I went in March for the first time in ages and was really relieved that the dress code had gone back to the original format: being fetish. Before, they let people off. They let people come in and kind of black trousers for the boys and and any any old thing that would you would might call a fancy dress outfit, but but they’ve really tightened up. So that changes the clientele you see. And I think when something doesn’t have a dress code, well, it’s just a club. The only thing that makes a fetish club is fetish attire.

Chardmore Society
In fact, Tim Tim Woodward from the Chardmore Society events where I’m House Dominatrix has just asked me if I could do December the 17th, Sunday, Sunday, December the 17th at 2:00 PM. I’m like what? What? Ohh, what a great time to start on a Sunday as well. Brilliant. But yeah, I’m going, I hope you do this again. Please do this again because that’s right up my street.
Queen Bee Society and Miss Kim Rub
Alice Hunter: Tell us about the Queen Bee Society drinks.
Miss Kim Rub: It’s a free event. I started it because in this country, there’s no such thing as a brothel. A disorderly house is absolutely not allowed under the law here, so most women work in isolation in their own establishments or rent a dungeon by the hour. Because of that, I wanted to create a space where women in the industry could connect and support each other.

It’s for female-identifying people only—no men. It is trans-inclusive, of course. We meet, network, and share experiences. It’s really just about fostering a sense of community. You can just come. It’s a free event. I let anybody come. If you’re female, we can’t have boys there because then there wouldn’t be a queen bee, would it?
I message over 300 women personally to invite them to each event. I don’t get anything out of it financially, but I love building that sense of connection for women in this industry. And I got nothing from it. In fact it costs me, I I produced the gold cards and the little I buy, the little queen bee charms. You’ve got to give back. I took a lot over the years and this is giving back and this is having a sense of community and bringing ladies together, so I like that. I like doing it.

Miss Kim Rub’s Collection in the Museum and modern history of the fetish scene
Alice Hunter: I heard that you have items in a museum collection?
Miss Kim Rub: Yes! I have pieces in the Sex and Sexuality Collection at the Bishopsgate Institute. They have my original Club Rub flyers, posters, and promotional materials, as well as latex pieces I’ve designed. It’s amazing to know that parts of my work and the history of the fetish scene are being archived for the future!

Of course lots of guys do lots and lots of things online. Back in the day, there was no online, so you had to go to an event or shop because I’ve done, I’ve done a talk at the Bishopsgate Institute where I’ve kind of like looked at the room and gone hands up, if you’re under 35, hands up. If you’re over there now going right, anybody over 35, do not answer these questions. Anybody under 35? Um, if you wanted to look at images of BDSM, kink, fetish, perversity and there was no Internet, no smartphones, no online, how would you do it?
And it usually, it’s quite fascinating how they just go to say something and then go, oh, Oh no, Ohh. And it it does open their eyes about things a little bit. You know, there’s a reason why I have a fetish library upstairs. Back in the day, I bought everything that you could possibly. Every magazine, every book. I was hungry because I’m into imagery. You’d say first and foremost I’m a fetishist. But yeah, I just bought every single book that was going. So books, I mentioned. Magazines, Yeah, but what were you, what would you be looking for?

Finding fetish images back in the day
Flyers for events, really. People used to pick up Flyers for events. I used to collect catalogues for makers of fetish attire or fetish implements. So I would buy all the catalogues because that was another way of seeing a fetish image phone box cards. Or you would buy a dominatrix directory because a lot of the Dommes would be in a fetish attire, so therefore you could see another person in a fetish outfit.

I said you’d go to an event, which is why on a Monday night, how long ago it would be? Like, maybe 30, maybe 28 years ago, The Skin Two rubber ball on a Monday night had 4000 people at it. Wow. Because now if you did it, they’d all just sit at home and go, oh, I don’t have to go, you know, back then you had to go because that’s what how you got a massive fix of fetish imagery. And back in the day, Boy George was there. John Galliano? Wow. Mark Armond, Jean Paul Gautier. They were all there.

Celebrity fetish
So one of the one of the ways I realised I could look at footage images was to befriend. I suppose you could say I befriended him or you could say I stalked him. Trevor Watson, who was a prolific fetish photographer at the time, used to do Skin 2 covers and I met just made it my business to make friends with them. Ohh no, I was going to do it and I did.
He said he remembered seeing me one day drive past him. He’d just come out of a shop and I’m like waving manically at him and he’s like who’s that woman? The next thing you know, I’m in his lounge looking at his his contact sheets through a little little eyeglass. And that was like, I can see some more fetish images? Because I was absolutely obsessed back in the day. So it’s it’s quite interesting, isn’t it? Now you just pick up a smartphone.

Yeah, everything sort of moved on, everything is on the Internet now. You can imagine anything like Sonic the Hedgehog as a gimp . Or yeah, and you can look it up and there’ll be millions of
images. There is a picture of somebody in a black rubber cat suit with SpongeBob SquarePants ABBA head, which is fantastic. Wow. Yeah. So yeah, you can have whatever you want now.
Rubber Cult
You don’t have to be head to toe, but your main body garments have to be rubber. You can’t wear a rubber top and a pair of black trousers. You can’t wear a rubber skirt and a chiffon blouse. It has to be the both. But you can wear leather shoes, leather boots. You can wear stockings, ordinary nylons, you can wear a feather fascinator hat.
We’re not so light, it’s got to be absolutely everything. But the main parts of the body have to be latex. And what we do find that we get is lots and lots of fully clad leather head to toe, only the eyes poking out and sometimes not even the eyes because they’ve got goggles on or these big head visors or gas mask type of things on. But it’s generally complete and utter rubber fetishists rather than the people that go to torture garden in a in a rubber outfit.

Who goes to Rubber Cult?
It’s the aficionados, the kind of hardcore rubber people. But like I say, there’s always a liberal smattering of girls in cocktail dresses, in rubber and and.is pretty magical and just enjoying that would keep you going for a couple of hours but we have he’s got a stage so we have two performance artists who do two stage shows each. So somebody usually like Marnie Scarlet who is you know just epic performer and all of her costumes are rubber and the the other performer will has to have a rubber performance.
Then somebody like Mistress Patricia brings her back bed and that’s there for people to have a little go in a vac bed and master Summers will bring his Violet wand and people can have a little go on there. We have a tiny dungeon with three pieces of equipment for anybody who wants to play woods. People don’t normally dance at the beginning of the night, but they might dance towards the end of the night, and we found, to be quite honest with the last one that people really like club classics from the songs we all know.
A night at Rubber Cult
You know, nobody wants anything too modern that they’re like, what is this? They want some old favourites and yeah, So what else do we have? You can get a pizza for those people because we start at six till 12. So, you know, if you’re coming out and getting a really long fix of being in rubber, talking to your friends, well, then at least you know you can go and have a little bite to eat without. It takes you forever to get into rubber and forever to get there. So probably you’re thinking about getting ready at 4:00 to get in a cab for five, to get there for six. And it’s like you’re hungry.
What to wear for Rubber Cult
So if someone’s like yes, this sounds amazing, I want to go to this. I need to get myself some really good rubber so I’m going to walk in and people will think I’m cool and I’m not a tourist or a loser. Where would how would they best kit themselves out with a good outfit for this?
We have the most latex designers of any country in the world. I mean, when I ran Club Rub I used to have the annual Club Rub rubber awards and I just picked the top 10 most well known rubber companies to give a prize.
There were easily another 20 behind them, ready and waiting should one drop out, which of course they didn’t. But there’s this. There’s so many rubber companies, the only thing I’d say is please don’t buy it from China. Chinese people care nothing for our industry, you know. We should support the people who have been around and making staff and and support them really. Then saving £20 by getting something made in China, who incidentally copy all of the UK designers and probably the rest of Europe.
And some some people might say there’s no difference in quality. Some of the designers might say yes, there is, they don’t construct very well, but it’s it’s kind of a bit more than that, isn’t it? It’s about serving the community. I’m a great believer in community and to be honest with that’s why I do Queen Bee Society drinks. It’s free. This for this one on on Friday I messaged 300 ladies 1 by 1.
What it’s like being a Domme
What I like best? The variety, definitely the variety. I think people think it’s just one thing, you know, discipline and pain. And it’s it’s not at all. It’s very, very diverse. And that’s what I love. No two days are the same, no two weeks are the same. No two clients are the same. And that’s what I absolutely love the most about it. So it gives me an opportunity to practise lots of my skills and lots of my personas.
I like it all, and probably the least enthusiastic about what comes out of a bum hole. That would be my least enthusiastic aspect of it. I’m a bit icky about any kind of bodily fluidity, kind of icky stuff, but other than that I kind of see everything as just a challenge and something to be proficient at. And I particularly like predicament bondage because it makes me laugh that I get them in all sorts of predicaments and then they’re hurting themselves, which I love.
The Future of the Fetish Scene
Alice Hunter: Where do you see things going in the future?
Miss Kim Rub: Hopefully not down the route of AI! Who will need an online dominatrix if there’s some AI bot who looks better than we do and says all the right things? AI can’t spank, though. So, at least we’ve got that!
And I don’t want to start any new projects to be quite honest with you. I keep getting asked all the time and it’s like no, no, no, no. And in fact, yeah. Just recently. A dear friend is said why don’t we do another type of event and I’m like. Just say no. Just say no. I’m so busy. I’m so busy. Honestly, I don’t have time to breathe sometimes, so I don’t want to take on any more things.
Service subs?
Alice Hunter: Do you ever take on staff or a slaves or people who work for you to help you out with the workload?
Miss Kim Rub: Nobody does it quite like you. Nobody. Cares about it, like you care about it and it’s not really such an empire. It’s more like, you know, a a big passion rather than lots of businesses that earn me loads and loads of money and you know, I do alright. But yeah, it’s more kind of like a one man band. Nobody knows or understands.
Alice Hunter: do you think that’s something politics should look to change in the future for the safety and well-being of people?
Miss Kim Rub: All of those kind of things are for the young people to decide. I’ve had my moment of standing on a soapbox and it’s not me anymore. I’ve I’ve done my March. I’ve done my, you know, various different things, charity events and and and what have you. So I don’t know. I’m happy with the situation. I don’t particularly want the whole of London to become lots of brothels. But you know what? I don’t care if that happened. Whatever.
How to say hello to Miss Kim Rub
Alice Hunter: How can people approach you in a way where you’ll be happy to speak to them rather than being creepy. Do they buy you a drink? Do they fall to their knees?
Miss Kim Rub: If anybody comes up to me and goes, are you Miss Kim? I’m always happy with that. I was at the bus stop a couple of years ago. He was during COVID and this guy went, are you Miss Kim and I went yes. And he went, ‘Ohh, hi.’
Everybody will have met me once and and think over the last 35 years. I should know. You look familiar, my love. Really. Yeah, it’s difficult. And then, of course, everybody’s got more than one name.
Final Thoughts from Miss Kim Rub
Alice Hunter: Any final thoughts for our readers?
Miss Kim Rub: Just that the fetish scene is an ever-changing, living thing. If you’re interested, get involved, meet people, and find your niche. And, of course, wear good rubber!
